How to Support Your Skin Barrier: A Guide to Healthier-Looking Skin Healthy-looking skin starts with caring for its natural protective barrier. At LiV:LiIN Botanical Skin Renewal in Notting Hill, London, we believe that understanding your skin is an important first step towards choosing the right skincare routine. What is the skin barrier? Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. It helps retain moisture and protect your skin from external irritants. When the barrier is not functioning well, skin may feel dry, tight, rough or more sensitive than usual. The aim of a good skincare routine is to support this natural protective function, rather than overwhelm your skin with too many products. What can affect your skin barrier? Several everyday factors can contribute to dryness or irritation, including: * Using harsh cleansers or exfoliating too frequently. * Introducing several new active ingredients at once. * Exposure to cold weather, wind or dry indoor air. * Using products that are not suitable for your skin.
